East Tennessee: Close to Everything!

Churches. Schools. Hospitals. Shopping. Food. Gas. You'll find convenient locations that suit your needs. That's a given.

Beyond the essentials, culture lovers of any stripe find that the city of Knoxville and surrounding towns support their pursuits. Art museums and galleries, a symphony, a ballet company, and great concert venues radiate from the city center.

Enjoy a concert at the recently renovated, grand old Tennessee Theatre where you'll be transported to a golden age, or stroll through the Knoxville Museum of Art to soak up a more contemporary setting. Play a round of golf at one of the area's 50 or so golf courses, or hike to Abrams Falls or any number of scenic sites in the Smokies. Also, safe boating is encouraged and supported on East Tennessee's beautiful lakes.

The University of Tennessee produces professional stage productions, holds free public performances at the Music Auditorium, and hosts so many speakers and exhibits that you will marvel at the depth and breadth of opportunities.

UT campus also has top sports arenas, stadiums and nationally ranked teams, including the football Volunteers and the men's and women's basketball teams. Do not be surprised when you begin to love the color combo of orange and white.

Do not forget to follow the pro teams -- Tennessee Smokies baseball, or Knoxville Ice Bears hockey games. Tennessee Titans football may call your name, too. It's close--in Nashville, just three hours west by car.

East Tennessee, your home, has it all close by, or access to it all close by. McGhee Tyson Airport, 12 miles south of downtown Knoxville, serves eight major airlines heading for 19 non-stop destinations including Las Vegas, Atlanta, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Orlando, New York, Chicago, Denver and Washington D.C. More than 120 arrival and departure flights are routine daily.

It is inevitable that you find yourself in your car for extended periods if you love to travel, but it is satisfying to know that Knoxville is located at heart of the Interstate system, where I-40E and W and I-75 N and S meet. This makes traveling by car as straightforward as it can be, no matter which direction you choose to pursue.
