East Tennessee Health Care: Looking after You

With five world-class medical centers in Knoxville, plus numerous branches throughout the city and in towns throughout the region, East Tennesseans rest easy when illness strikes. Caring and professional hands are minutes away.

Knoxville is home to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. It is a teaching hospital, so its physicians stay at the forefront of medical research and new treatments. It is the Level I Trauma Center for the area. The hospital was founded more than 50 years ago and offers heart, lung, brain, spine, childbirth and cancer specialists, as well as numerous other general practice and specialty physicians. Its entrance is on Alcoa Highway, just over the bridge from UT campus.

St. Mary’s Medical Center has supported good health for East Tennesseans for almost 75 years. Its specialties include women's services, cancer care, orthopedics, cardiac care and neurosciences. St. Mary’s Health System operates in all parts of Knoxville as well as in branches in neighboring towns.

Physicians at Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee distinguish themselves treating heart problems, cancer, and sleep disorders, as well as providing senior services and rehabilitation throughout the area. They treat brain abnormalities with state-of-the art Gamma Knife technology. Baptist sits on the banks of the Tennessee River, close to downtown. It was founded 50 years ago.

Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center arose more than 90 years ago atop the remnants of a Civil War battlefield. Its famed Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center and Thompson Cancer Survival Center accept referrals from many area hospitals. The Center is located near downtown and the UT campus, and Park West, one of its major branches, is located in west Knoxville.

East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, also located in the Fort Sanders neighborhood, meets the needs of ailing children and their distressed parents throughout the region. It’s the only medical center in East Tennessee devoted solely to children, and its approach to healing is family-centered.
